    I ordered a 3 Bird Roast from James Alexander Fine Foods after a friend recommended the company. We had an early thanksgiving celebration as my cousin is flying back to the US. We absolutely loved this 3 Bird Roast, so succulent and the delicious flavours really stood out. I am so pleased I didn't go back to any of the bigger retailers, and instead chose an artisan producer instead! Highly recommend, and fantastic customer service!

    This is the 3rd year we have bought the 5-bird roast for Christmas. It is so moist and tasty and really easy to cook, just cover with a foil tent and cook in the oven for 2 hours, it bastes itself.
    Really easy to carve and absolutely no waste. So tasty it was all gone in a few meals.

    Excellent 5 bird roast. Really tasty and succulent, no waste really good value for money. We ordered larger than we needed and there was a little left over for eating cold, it didn’t last long though as it was so tasty.
    Service was absolutely great too and staff really went the extra mile, particularly the service and help I received from Oliver.
    Would definitely recommend and use again.

    The roast arrived safely with no fuss or bother. We ordered the 2.5 kg roast to feed 6 adults and 2 small children and this was plenty for Christmas day with leftovers for Boxing Day. The meat was easy to cook, taking up so much less space in the oven than a turkey or goose. We needed to cook it a little longer than suggested as the juices were still pink and we felt it would have been helpful to have had some idea of the temperature the meat needed to reach to save keep prodding it to see the juices.
    The roast was easy to carve and all in all a great success and a lovely change from turkey!

    As a company they were very easy to speak to in person and took the trouble to find out where our order had gone too - even though it turned out it was our fault. They remained very helpful. The order arrived well chilled even though the carrier had broken the insulated box. The bird was very easy to cook and serve - plenty for the next day and our guests really enjoyed their meal. We certainly would not hesitate to use this company again.

    We ordered a 3kg five bird roast, even though there are only 2 of us, because we like to have plenty left over for sandwiches and a curry on boxing day.
    The ordering and delivery process was extremely efficient and it arrived as expected on the 22nd December (nice and early too, so I didn't have to wait in all day).
    We cooked the bird as per the online instructions (although I did also get these emailed to me on Christmas eve).
    The roast was lovely and moist, and although I found it a bit difficult to detect the difference between some of the different meats, it was delicious for our Christmas dinner yesterday.
    I would only comment that depending on appetite size, I am not sure we could have fed 9-10 with this for Christmas dinner - but then we maybe just like a big portion!
    I would definitely use this company again.

    I cannot say enough about how impressed I am. First the ordering process was so easy, I requested a specific delivery date and the day before I received notification that my delivery would be before 4pm, it arrived just before 2:30pm. I then received an email with full cooking instructions which I followed to the letter. Our Christmas dinner was by far the best I’ve ever made. The bird was so tasty, easy to carve and not one bit dry, a tender, moist and full of flavour. I have already decided where I am going to get next years dinner. At first I felt I was spending rather a lot on the 5 Bird roast, however now I feel it was worth every penny spent and with no waste at all. Looking forward to my future purchases. Thank you

Our famous hand prepared 5 bird roasts are made to order from Turkey, Pheasant, Chicken, Duck and Wild Wood Pigeon, expertly combined together so that each bird cooks the next one inside and the juices combine exquisitely.

Luxury award-winning gluten free pork sausage stuffing is then added to ensure exquisite taste and melt-in-the-mouth texture.  Lastly, the joint is dressed with award-winning Cumbrian pancetta and a couple of sprigs of thyme to maintain the succulent flavours inside and to add visual “wow” effect.

After the main feast any that is left over also tastes very good cold, so you can look forward to another treat if you don’t finish it in the first sitting.

How to Cook your Bird Roast

  • Bring the joint up to room temperature.        
  • Pre-heat your oven to 190°c/375° (170°c or gas mark 5 for fan assisted ovens)
  • Calculate the cooking time allowing 40 minutes per kg, then add 15-20 minutes to overall cooking time
  • Remove the packaging and place in a large roasting tray
  • Season well
  • Cover with a loose tent of foil
  • Place in the middle of your pre-heated oven
  • Roast for the calculated time basting every 30 to 40 minutes
  • Remove the foil tent 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time to brown and crisp the skin
  • Check that it is cooked by inserting a skewer – the juices should run clear. If they are a little pink give them 15 minutes more and check again
  • Transfer to a serving platter and tightly cover in the foil and allow to rest for 10 minutes before carving
